Role Description
Narrator (Audio Production Department) Provide audio narration in the production of a wide range of printed material in an audio format, reading fluently, clearly, accurately and with meaning, whilst operating equipment in a recording studio. We record a wide variety of material at our Kooyong studios, ranging from modern Australian fiction and non-fiction for the library collection, to material recorded for particular clients (history books, academic textbooks, manuals, etc.) as well as a selection of magazines. We ask that prospective narrators be available for a 3-hour recording session at least once a week (Monday to Friday, not weekends). For books for the library collection, the narrator is able to have as much time as they need to pre-read/prepare the book, and we can offer a range of recording sessions throughout the day: 9.30-12.30, 1.00-4.00 and 6.00-9.00 (all those starting/finishing times are flexible – if you wanted to do 10.00-1.00 or 5.00-8.00, that’s usually fine). Because these are ‘self-produced’ recordings, you’d receive training at the start of your first session re: operating the recording equipment and, apart from the evening sessions, there’s always someone around to assist if you have any difficulties. For the book narration, here’s a link to the narration samples on our website, to give you an idea of the sort of reading we’re after: https://www.visionaustralia.org/services/library/clips-interviews-and-radio
